Political Ad Tatics

What do you think when you hear the word political campaigns? Let me guess, boring, dumb, stupid people, and kill me now? Yeah, a lot of people think that way.

However, we should be excited for another campaign! We get to vote and have a say in how our government is run. What is exciting about campaign time is all the political ads that come out. Don’t get stuck on voting for someone just based on their ad! It is design to appeal to your emotions, logic, and character!

Political ads are supposed to get the candidates name out there and to persuade you to vote for them. Here let’s watch and ad, and I’ll explain it to you. Check out Ted Cruz first ad for 2016.

Ted is totally applying ethos here! So what is ethos? It is the Greek word for character. He is appealing to virtue and character. He states how close he is to God and how he is thankful for his family. I believe you could even argue that he is using pathos too. He appealed to my emotions. When the solider and his wife were hugging, appealed to my emotions for sure.

This was a good ad. It made him seem like he has morals and close family ties. He also demonstrated how passionate he is for our Country. These all seem like values we want for our future president of America. He appealed to our emotions and character. Overall, a successful ad and this is how political ads should be.
